For the 2024 ARRL Field Day, Rick NZ2I of Panama City and I operated from Eastbank Campground in Southwest Georgia on the East side of Lake Seminole. We were a two-operator, two-transmitter Class B Battery entry. We got 350 contacts for 3500 points plus 450 bonus points. The heat was brutal, but we still had fun.

The radio propagation was terrible due to geomagnetic storms, but I activated Parks On The Air (POTA) on both days. The weather and scenery were awesome. The daughter and grandkids visited on Mother's Day. It was an opportunity to use the new Sony RX10 IV for photos and video. By the way, the white bird had a fish in its mouth.

Team RaDAR Rally at Falling Waters State Park, April 2024
Переглядів 8710 місяців тому
Tom WD0HBR was my teammate during the April 2024 RaDAR Rally. Our venue was Falling Waters State Park in Florida. Tom, Suzy, and I walked the trails to four locations within four hours making five contacts at each on 20 meters. We used the FX-4CR rig on SSB with both the SOTABeams 40-30-20 link dipole and the Alexloop mag loop. The last stop was my favorite using the Elecraft KH-1 running five ...

Greg; I can see your point .... we had 10" of snow here .... lasted several days .... moved back close to doctors and hospital ( six blocks away ) do to medical /-) I retained country buying on a monthly basis .... so as you to watch from the warm side of a window( now on a third floor view ) and wait for warmer weather outings =)
Hey Greg, nice QSO! de WVØH

Looks like a great time there. Well done...
Very good outing Greg and rick .... really nicely planned FD 2024 ..... hope to catch you Winter FD =) N5VMO Pat
Sweet video, looks like a great Field Day outing.
Thanks 👍
Interesting tests. I wonder high the 20 meter dipole was? You did show some modeling. I think low angle pattern plots of verticals have issues at extreme low angle. I use EZNEC and there are some notes on that in the manual. There is also some good info in the ON4UN low band DXing book concerning verticals and the Brewster angle. From what I have been able to conclude over many years is that a high dipole will always outperform a vertical with one exception. That exception is when there is seawater out in front of the vertical! The seawater seems to make the vertical as good as the dipole. Many people do elaborate radial fields for their vertical but what really counts is the ground farther away from the vertical which can’t be fixed except by moving to the seashore! I once had a 80 meter half square on a salt marsh/ salt water creek. That was absolutely the best antenna I ever had. I could easily beat out all my friends with 80 foot high dipoles and various verticals ( not on seawater). I also prefer top loaded verticals vs base loaded. Additionally the current maximum on my half square ( two full size 1/4 wave verticals in phase) was at the top of the vertical instead of at the ground. I feel that reduces loses. For that reason my 160 meter Inverted L ( top loaded vertical) is over 1/4 long to move the high current point up on the vertical wire to get an much current as high as possible on the vertical. My tests were not as sophisticated as yours. 73, Don N4DJ

Well done, Greg....with Tom 'n Susie...
Interesting CW :)
Well done Greg

Nice! Your comment leads me to believe you were able to get good SWR on 40, 20, 17 and 15 but not 30, correct?
I did not realize the KH1 included 30 meters, but I see it does. A band to try.
Very nice presentation and information about nets.. Thank you for sharing.. Also, Thank you Ken KB4XT for the great shout out and detailed explanation of the QRP SSB Net and Livestream. Ken is a huge supporter and successful QRP operator.. We always enjoy talking to him on Sunday nights. Everyone (qro and qrp) is welcome to join us and have some low power fun testing our antennas and propagation!! Come Joins us !! k0klb
You forgot to put battery in.
Thanks for the video. Sorry I missed the meeting but I am planning on participating April 6. Mickey N2MC
Awesome activity
Thanks for the replay for us of the ZOOM meeting =) de Pat N5VMO
Thanks for this, Greg, see ya on the air at April’s RaDAR Rally!
A very nice receiver. Sure wish I could locate a 2-bq for mine.
Well done, Greg. Looks like you had fun.....
That looks like a much more comfortable location than I selected 😁 Fun to see your set-up and operations. 73!
Nicely done Greg. MagLoop always a favorite! 73 de N4UVR
This little game could end up being the only option available for communication in the light of what remote viewers are predicting to happen soon! See: ua-cam.com/video/N6nghKxybXs/v-deo.htmlfeature=shared Ham radio could be a lifesaver again.
Brilliant Greg! Love it! Hugs to Suzy! 73 de M6ECG/P
Just ask us sailors that use our backstay as a vertical and the ocean as our ground plane. Best DX station I ever had was on my sailboat. Amazing RX and TX
Nice POTA Greg and Bob =) de N5VMO Pat
Great outing Greg ...... looks like fun Winter Field Day =) de N5VMO Pat
Ok, here is my issue. I went to the config advance and selected ARRL field day. But when transmitting CQ it just sends CQ, my call and my grid square but not 1D KS like I put in the box in the advance screen. Why is it not appearing in the TX out text. how is the other guy going to know my section and mode.
Good info, thanks. However, there is one guy that took away from the continuity by continually interrupting and being somewhat argumentative, might mute him next time.
hi greg gret video the ah-4 is copid after yaesu fc40 i think or the other way around dont know who made it first ,you sould tray a folded long wier or folded longwier inverted v, 1 or 2 aresrors vork vonders 4 the long run from tuner to radio with 2 small tent spikes, smal boxez thate make wonders in comunication
Enjoyed the video guys.
Fantastic.....great radio fun. I'm very familiar with the park and island. I've operated from the picnic area, but not the island. 😀😀😀😀
Great video once again, Greg! Just don't sit on that rotten park bench! -Chris VA3ECO
